Oliver Koletzki is back. Parker Frisby is back. And house is a nation. On his own label Stil vor Talent the man himself now releases a four track EP titled “This is so fucking Old Skool". His real persona meets his house alias Parker Frisby, both having produced two tracks. First up is Parker Frisby with two tracks, “Since You Are Gone” and “Brain Against Heart". “Since You Are Gone” is a deep housy affair with a stomping bass and an effect-laden loop that keeps getting filled with more well-placed effects and a chopped up vocal sample. Over this soundscape Parker Frisby creates one of the most wonderfully epic melodies that sounds like a summer Ibiza anthem already. Simply beautiful! Then, Parker Frisby comes up with “Brain against Heart": In the foreground of this track is the vocal sample. “Use your brain” is what we hear over this oldskool filter house loop that turns into a wonderful piano house track when the piano melody kicks in over the percussive beats. Some additional arppeggios turns this track into the perfect summer teaser. Then it’s Oliver himself with “Streetlife” and the title track “This is fucking Oldskool". But “Streetlife” is pretty oldskool as well: A chopped up vocal sample, a clappy disco groove and one of the funkiest basslines since Grandmasta Flash, with a full on wind-down effect inclusive. It is only the few digital effects that place this track in the 21st century. Just tight! Then the title track: a more electronic piece of Synthpop. A wonderful arrpegio floats over the simple, yet effective loop and bass. Dream away to this gloating synth monster that will run shivers down your spine where ever you are, whatever time it is. House is back!

Pentru prima data in Romania, The Mission prezinta Armin Van Buuren intr-un show care a facut inconjurul lumii, Armin Only, intr-un turneu sensational. In cadrul Armin Only, artistul petrece toata seara evenimentului la pupitru mixand si condimentand seturile sale care pot ajunge si la opt ore cu diversi solisti, alaturi de care interpreteaza cele mai iubite piese de pe albumele sale. Este un spectacol de muzica, lumini si senzatii, un eveniment unic. Nu este nevoie sa iti IMAGINEzi, trebuie doar sa vii la Arenele Romane pe 28 iunie 2008. 

La doar 31 de ani, dupa 10 ani de carierea, Armin se afla pe locul 1 in DJ Mag Top 100 si a primit peste 350.000 de voturi din toata lumea. 

La ora actuala, cel mai bun DJ din lume conform DJ Mag, isi imparte timpul intre productie, scena si radio. "Pana la urma asta vroiam de fapt. Nu este doar iubire pentru muzica, este o adevarata pasiune, nu doar o placere sau un hobby, a devenit chiar un stil de viata", declara Armin la inceputul carierei sale de DJ si producator. 

Armin van Buuren, fan desavarsit Jean Michel Jarre, a descoperit "magia productiei" cand l-a cunoscut pe Ben Liebrand, cel care i-a devenit si mentor in tot ceea ce a realizat. Dependent de sunete, la doar 19 ani, Armin era considerat un "tanar talent", dar a trecut imediat la titlul de "etalon al muzicii trance". Mentinandu-se pe locul 3 in DJ Mag Top 100, anul 2005 l-a surprins cu doua premii: Best Radio Show si Best Compilation (pentru "A State of Trance"), in cadrul decernarii de la Miami Winter Music Conference. Pentru ca sosise momentul ca Armin sa uimeasca din nou, a lovit piata cu un nou album, "Shivers" facandu-si astfel si debutul ca textier. De-a lungul carierei a produs si remixat numaroase track-uri ca: "Touch Me", "Communi", "Sound Of Goodbye", "Burned With Desire", "Free", "King Of My Castle" - Wamdue Project, "Janeiro" - Solid Sessions si "7 Cities" - Solar Stone. Pentru ca a vrut sa se implice in evoluarea muzicii electronice, in anul 2003 si-a deschis propriul label, "Armada" alaturi de Maykel Piron si David Lewis. Firma nu este doar label, ci include si servicii de booking si management. Sub 'Armada', au fost scrise in mare parte track-uri primite de la producatori la inceput de drum. 

Armin nu este doar un nume important pe scena muzicii trance, a devenit un etalon si un artist in adevaratul sens al cuvantului.

John Dahlback's normal day

John: I live together with my girlfriend in central Stockholm. A normal day in my life is that I wake up around 08:00AM and drives to the studio with any kind of thought about what I should do for the day. Usually I’ve done som pre work (beats, bought a plugin or such). Then I try to create something to around 16:00PM. During this time I also visit the other producers around. When I get home I listen to what I’ve done today and thinks about if there’s something I can change. The rest of the day I spend with my friends or anything else that doesn’t involve music. On the weekends I travel around the world deejaying.

Persuader - Stockholm (album): It was because of this record I got in to the whole electronic scene. I still listen to it today.

Benny Benassi - Satisfaction: This track really made house music big in a commercial way. Amazing track and well produced. I know that many people think it’s a corny track bit I’m really not ashamed over the fact that I love it, haha!

Special Interview with Djuma Soundsystem

Q: You are two guys in Djuma Soundsystem , you have two more aliases Ben Horn and Def Jaguar , from when are you two together , how did you met?

Both Lars B and me have been DJs since we were kids, but didn't produce music before we meet around 6 years ago. Lars just lost his best friend, and I just lost my scolarship for my university, so we both were a little lost and needed something new in our life. I met Lars while dj'ing at a famous club in Copenhagen called Rust (witch burned down last year), were the both of us got hired as residents. We always had a dream of making music, and sort of thought each other how to. After this we've never parted, so I guess you could call us a great team.

Q: With the other two names , you make different music then when you are Djuma Soundsystem ? Funk ? Breakbeat?

We have always just made music without thinking to much about what to do with it, or which hype it belongs to, and then afterwards we raised the qestions on which category to place it in. So it just came natural to make up some different names for different projects. I think we have released under 8 different aliases all together. Now we try to scale it down to as few names as possible. Ben Horn as our funky outlet, were we just have remixed a danish band called "Analogik" and Gotan Projects Phillip Cohen Solal, and have a release out on "Auditory Design" next month, with Danish singer Ane Trolle (known from Trentemшller) plus a remix from Ursula 1000. As Def Jaguar we make funky club music; we had a singel out recently called "Chick 1" on British label "IO", plus a colaboration with our friend, Flip out on "Brut". But Djuma Soundsystem is surely our main focus, where we try to make sort of a deep techno sound of our own, that still fits our label, Get Physicals, profile.

Q: You have new release on the label Brut , called This sound ? Do you smell one more hit?

We are a little pissed on the label, bacause it's NOT a Djuma Soundsystem release, it's Def Jaguar, in a colaboration with our friend Flip. I suspect that they added the Djuma name to sell some extra copies, and that's not cool at all. It's not a "hit" type of track, just a good club track. It gets a lot of great feedback from DJs, and is already at no 14 on beatport the first week, so we're really happy with that off course, but we still feel cheated.

Q: When you do a dj set , so , you dont play together then , do you play similar music , or the style that you play has nothing to do with Lars's choice of music?

We have very much the same taste of music, and are very much in tune when we play together! I don't like too much to play back to back, because often it gets too random and messy. But I know Lars, and he knows me, so well, that we give eachother lots of energy, in stead of "playing against eachother". On a good day we're like a two headed octapus. I also like to be in charge, cause it gives more control. So often I will start the night to play half an hour like, and then Lars gets the same, and then we do a back to back when we're both gotten warm and in a good party mood.

Q: Is it better to do live playing your tracks ? Or you think that its better when you mix tracks that someone else created?

For me personaly, it's not "creative" to DJ, it's a craft! So is playing your music out I guess. Making music in the studio is creating! It's still special to perform your own music. That's the only time you really get a confirmation if your music works or not.

Q: What is your favourite place that you have ever played ? And at this point you like more playing on festivals where the big crowd is or in small clubs with chosen people?

I like both! Of course it's a more grand experience to play a festival in front of thousands of people, but in many ways it's more intense to play for a small crowd, its much easyer to feel totaly in tune with a smaller crowd, and it's more personal.

Q: How is it to be signed for Get Physical , one of the most successful labels these days?

It's a bit strange having your heroes as bosses, ha ha! We've always been huge fans of the label, and maybe especially Booka Shade, so we had to pinch our selves to believe it when G P called and wanted to sign us.

Q: Your world famous track Les Djinns is the most sold track on Beatport ever!! That is one huge success , how did you get long with that , did something changed after that ? More bookings ? More myspace requests? :)))

Of course it opend some doors for us! We are now on our favourite booking agency, Wilde bookings, and get to play all over the world! We are very greatful for that! It's my dream coming true, to travel a lot, see strange places and meet a lot of cool people. I'm not sure if I would come to see Macedonia for instance, if it haden't been for my job.

Q: The same track was released on EMI the biggest label in Denmark, before Get Physical , was it so sold then also?

No, the track was signed to EMI just in those days that all of those "major" labels suffered, so it was released in Denmark, and promoes were given to UK DJs, and then the track was cancelled (as EMI dropped almost 1/3 of all their artists), and we bought it back. The funny thing is that we got our good friend Anders to do a remix of the track, and it got no response at all. Four years later it was released again, and his name, Trentemшller was better known...and the rest is history ;)

Loco Dice - Pimp Jackson Is Talkin Now

One of the best tracks on Loco Dice’s new album ‘7 Dunham Place’ is ‘Pimp Jackson Is Talking Now!!!’, a dirty booty tech house record that will rock any party. 

The track features a cool bassline and a dude talking over the top about sex and music, and it sounds very raw and unprocessed. 

There’s no big build up or breakdown, just a brilliant funky beat and an infectious groove that bounces and bounces. 

The male vocal, too, comes across as unrehearsed and sounds like it was recorded live in one take, almost as if Loco Dice was messing about in the studio with some friends and thought ‘Hey Jackson, you sound like a pimp - talk into this mic and give me some vocals’.  

Whoever Jackson is, he’s got one helluva sexy voice (and he knows it). 

‘Pimp Jackson Is Talking Now!!!’ is like a cross between Matthew Dear and Basement Jaxx.

Livio & Roby - Speranta LP

Livio & Roby nu sunt la primul contact cu Steve Lawler si label-urile aferente. Cei doi DJi si producatori romani au debutat in urma cu mai multi ani, iar din 2007 s-au bucurat de o recunoastere internationala ca la carte. Duetul a pregatit pentru label-ul digital al lui Steve Lawler, Viva Music, un LP format din noua piese.
Cine i-a ascultat pe baieti mixand live sau in formula Monochrome, probabil ca nu vor parea prea surprinsi nici de ceea ce se aude pe Speranta LP. Desi fiecare piesa are un sound aparte, majoritatea productiile de pe acest pachet isi gasesc un numitor comun si probabil ar putea fi incluse una dupa alta intr-un set, fara mari probleme. 

Singura piesa care se deosebeste de celelalte este Return of the Jack, poate si cea mai buna productie de pe tot LP-ul. Peak Magic, Guilty Pleasure si Flori on the Hill sunt construite dupa un sablon minimal combinat cu house, cu un groove dulce si perfect pentru ringul de dans. 

Rasfoind prin LP, se remarca si Padureanca, piesa cu un aer usor psichedelic si sinistru, cu o compozitie simpla insa de efect. 

Speranta este un material fara prea mari pretentii, poate si de asta a fost lansat doar digital. Oricum, potentialul lui Livio & Roby este mult mai mare, si spre deosebire de alte piese facute de ei, mare parte din ceea ce se gaseste pe acest LP este mediocru.

Anul acesta, Street Delivery va avea loc între 6-8 iunie pe strada Arthur Verona. Timp de 3 zile, strada va fi din nou închisă pentru maşini şi deschisă pentru oameni.

Street Delivery (editia 2008) este un eveniment organizat de Ordinul Arhitectilor din Romania si Carturesti sub patronajul Primariei Municipiului Bucuresti, Primariei Sectorului 2 si Primariei Sectorului 1 pentru valorificarea urbanistica si comunitara a Strazii Arthur Verona, din centrul capitalei, organizat in zilele de 6-8 iunie 2008, cand strada va fi inchisa traficului si redata locuitorilor. in paralel, strada Florimund Mercy din Timisoara va avea parte de un tratament similar.

Scopul acestui demers este elaborarea unui regulament de urbanism pentru amplificarea suprafetelor destinate pietonilor si utilizarea acestora ca spatii de contact comunitar valorificate in sens cultural. Pentru ca implementarea conceptului sa fie una de succes se doreste organizarea cu regularitate a acestui eveniment, intru obisnuirea atat a cetatenilor cat si a autoritatilor cu notiunea de strada reclamata de pietoni.
